Appalling treatement of the press in China

It is appalling to read that three Chinese newspaper editorial staff have been sacked for simply allowing a partially-coded tiny classified advert on Page 14, which said:

Saluting the strong mothers of the victims of 64

I didn't realise, and nor did the staff, it seems, that "64" means "Six-four" or "June 4th" which is the date of the 1989 crackdown in Tiananmen Square.
