Cameron's Conservatives "get" the modern world, apparently

"We get the modern world" says David Cameron.

This is from the party that wants to venerate, keep and expand grammar schools.

This is from the party that wants, until it was sat on, to allow charging for museums.

...from the party where 54 per cent of MPs surveyed disagree that gay couples should have the same rights as heterosexual couples.

...from the party where 48 per cent of MPs surveyed disagreed that the diverse races of Britain had improved society.

This is from the guy who calls himself an Anglican. From the guy who puts the Bible at the top of his list of favourite books.

“If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

It’s hardly surprising that modern Christians prefer to gloss over texts like this. More a case of the hate that dare not speak its name, don’t you think?

  2. Bless you Laurence, you are such a sweetie. Yes, I read these comments when you first made them on ID'sD in the comments string about Jerry Falwell. As I made clear on a string about gay adoption, I am a whole-hearted and vocal supporter of Rev Jeffrey John. Indeed, I wrote leters in support of him to become Bishop of Reading including ones published in the Daily Telegraph and the Newbury Weekly News.

"Modern Christians" are not the first people to see the specific regulations in Leviticus as appropriate for a struggling exiled tribe 3,000 years ago but not relevant today.

I eat pork, shellfish, game and rabbit. I don't give burnt offerings. I don't sprinkle blood on teh altar of my local church. I touch unclean meat. I eat the fat of cattle and sheep. I eat the blood of animals (black pudding - occasionally). I am not circumcised and my son wasn't circumcised after eight days or at all. I didn't give a burnt offering of a lamb and a dove for my daughter. I don't go to my priest when I have a rash. I don't follow the regulations about mildew in Leviticus. I cut the hair on the sides of my head.

I am sure you are very surprised by all these things. I am a total sham and a hypocrite aren't I?

    Well done Laurence!

  3. Forgive me Paul for I have sinned. I take it all back. You’re not 3,000 years out of date. Just 2,000 years out of date. A thoroughly modern man!
